Our People

Staff

Our staff are chosen to maintain a balance of older and younger, experienced, recently qualified and apprentice nursery practitioners. We have many long serving staff (even one or two from the very beginning) and we’re proud to say that we have generations of families working with us.

We are committed to continuous development and training and so all are highly trained and knowledgeable in child development. We have people studying at level 5 and for university degrees.

All nursery staff are screened by the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) and undergo annual Staff Suitability Declaration checks alongside First Aid training.

Channings Childcare Staff

Management Team

Kate Hoggard - Director

Kate has been a part of the Channings family since she was born, knowing that one day she’d take the reins from her mum. After training as a teacher and completing her Master’s in Education in 2017, she made the switch from teaching to become a manager at the company in 2019. Following her Catherine’s retirement in September, Kate has now stepped up to fill her shoes and lead the company. Kate is our mental health and wellbeing officer for the staff and children and heads up safeguarding across all the nurseries.

Kate has a little boy, who attends the Werneth nursery and two dogs at home. She enjoys watching car and bike racing and can often be found at a racetrack with her son.

Sharon Harrison - Director

Sharon was the first person Catherine ever employed back in September 1989. At the time, Sharon promised Catherine she would give her all to the job and she has done just that! Sharon has been Catherine’s right hand and Catherine would be the first to admit that Channings wouldn’t be where it is today without her help. Sharon looked after Kate when she was a little baby and attended Channings Newhey! She is qualified NNEB, ADCE and NVQ level 4 and over the years has worked in every area of the nursery business.

Sharon has recently become mum to a little rescue dog – Ollie! She absolutely loves watching tv and often comes in with lots of raves and reviews.

Diane Brooks - Operational Director

Diane joined us in 2008 as a nursery practitioner at the Royton nursery. She has progressed through the company and has managed two of our nurseries. Now our operational director, Diane works day to day with all the nurseries and the managers providing continuity among all of the nurseries and the link with head office. She is trained to level 5 and is a designated safeguarding lead across all of the nurseries.

Diane has a grandson who has just left our Werneth nursery to embark on his next big adventure – school! Rhea, our manager at the Newhey nursery is also Diane’s daughter – we really are a family business in many different respects!

Janine Marsden

Janine joined us in 2010. Janine joined Channings Childcare as an apprentice and has very successfully progressed through the company. Janine has worked at Chadderton Way, Royton and now Kingsway. She is trained to level 5 and is a designated safeguarding lead. Janine is mummy to two daughters, both of whom have attended nursery and loves spending her weekends visiting family in Wales or getting muddy at a family festival.

Kathryn Cocker

Kathryn joined us in 2001, left briefly then returned in 2014. Kathryn has worked in, and managed all of our nurseries during her long time with us. She is currently managing our Royton nursery. Trained to level 3, Kathryn is studying towards her level 5 and is a designated safeguarding lead. Kathryn has taken on lots of different roles over the years and so her days can be quite different. She has recently become mum to an adorable little dog Dotty. Naturally that means Kathryn spends much of her downtime exploring new places with Dotty.

Reah Brooks

Reah joined us in 2020. One of our newest managers, she started off life at our Chadderton Way nursery before moving over to the Newhey nursery and progressing up to manager. The most organised person on the planet, Reah is currently a level 3 and is a designated safeguarding lead. She likes to spend her evenings and weekends going for long rambling walks or trampolining.

Ellie Bolger

Ellie joined us in 2018 as a nursery practitioner in the pre-school room at the Werneth nursery. She quickly progressed to be pre-school room leader before taking on the role of manager earlier this year. Ellie is trained to level 3 and is a designated safeguarding lead at Werneth. At the weekend Ellie loves spending time with her godson and nieces and nephews.

Janet Wright

Janet joined us in 2008 and has worked in various roles, including management. Janet is now our Senior Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO). She works with all our managers to identify and plan the support required for children who need additional assistance. Janet has a grandson that attends our Royton nursery and can often be found exploring new places with him and her family.

Career Opportunities

We are always looking for experienced, Level 3 Childcare qualified nursery practitioners across our nurseries. Like our children, we are growing too.

If you are hard working, reliable and enthusiastic about working with children from 0-5, then you’re the sort of person we need.

Working with children is incredibly rewarding. After all, you are caring for, nurturing and educating the next generation. When parents leave their children at Channings Childcare, they are leaving their most valued and treasured commodity: their child. It is a privilege and a role which carries enormous responsibility.

If you would like to join our amazing team, please email us on info@channingschildcare.co.uk with a CV.
