Channings Nursery in Werneth, Oldham
Our Oldham nursery opened in 1999 and was originally known as Westlands Cottage. It was built as the servants’ quarters and stable block for the Werneth Estate, owned by Oldham’s highly regarded Lees family.
Excellent Oldham Location – A Haven
This nursery occupies an exceptional location, on high ground over looking the main Manchester to Oldham route, two minutes drive from the Hollinwood exit of the M60. This makes us extremely accessible for parents commuting to, or through Oldham. Partly due to our accessibility we have children from a wide area. We have parents who are teachers and assistants from the Blue Coat School and Crompton House School, nurses at the Royal Oldham Infirmary and other professionals commuting to work in Oldham.
Despite its easy access to the main arterial road system, Westlands Cottage nursery is a haven of tranquillity, looking out over Oldham, from its very quiet cul-de-sac position. Very little traffic passes the nursery and the only sounds we hear are from our little charges! The nursery has been developed to retain the cottage character and is a wonderful setting for your child’s early development.
Interested parents are invited to come and see the nursery for themselves, at the Oldham nursery, no prior booked appointment is required.
Rich Cultural Mix
Werneth is a very well integrated community. We have children from a wide range of ethnicities and backgrounds and our experience is that this helps them to develop them as well balanced children. They learn tolerance, and respect for others and also how to help each other.
Together we acknowledge many religious and cultural celebrations. Whilst we are an English speaking nursery, we have staff who speak Urdu, Bengali and Punjabi. We teach children nursery rhymes and how to count in other languages such as Punjabi, Japanese and French. In our Pre School class we have introduced sign language.
