Channings Nursery Newhey
We have now opened our new toddler room which is situated on the first floor of the nursery. This room caters for 12 children who are under 3.
Our old toddler room has been renamed the tweenie room and this is for children who are under 2 years of age.
Golden Grin Award
For the 3rd year running we have received our Golden Grin (GOLD) award. This shows an ongoing commitment to healthy eating and oral health.
SureStart are starting Rhythm and Rhyme sessions in nursery for our children this is designed to introduce children under the age of five to the joys of music-making and develop their skills and abilities through musical activity.
In May we will be celebrating International Dance Day and members of the staff are going to be demonstrating various dances from around the world.
The children in the preschool room have been busy planting lots of seeds including lavender and sunflowers.
Communication Friendly Spaces – Elizabeth Jarman
Members of staff have recently undergone training on creating
Communication Friendly Spaces™these ideas come from an approach developed by Elizabeth Jarman. This develops communication space through the use of soft lighting, tents, netting and cushions.
We have been lent “pack-away reading spaces” which will allow the children to create a communication space with their parents at home over a weekend.

Congratulations go to Joanne our manager who has recently completed her NVQ Level 4.
We had a visit from Gillian at Early Years who took the children on a “Listening Walk” to Werneth Park to listen to the birds; this was to develop speaking and listening skills.
We have had various fun days including Red Nose Day and St Georges Day where the children listened to traditional music and made flags and hats.
The children in the preschool room have enjoyed a book week which was to encourage the enjoyment of books.
At Easter we held an Easter Bonnet Competition and Parade, the older children wore their creations to the park.
The children have been busy in the garden where our blackcurrants, strawberries and grapes are growing; we will soon be planting peas and potatoes.
