Childrens' Nursery Daycare for Oldham, Newhey & Royton

The Channings group of nurseries provides nursery care for babies, toddlers and pre-school children in three nurseries serving the Oldham, Royton, Newhey and Milnrow areas. We have almost twenty years of nursery care experience. Our first nursery was opened by Catherine Hoggard (B.A. Hons PGCE), in Newhey in 1989.

Each of our nurseries is located in a building of character, and has its own special features. Please see Nurseries for details. Whilst our nurseries have their own individual attractions, much of our childcare planning and practice is common to all nurseries in the group.

We recognise that whilst in our care, we are preparing your children for later learning. Each child develops his/her own preferred way of learning. We encourage them to explore, ask questions and develop confidence. Play is well planned in different areas with resources that encourage development of confidence, independence and social skills. Our staff interact creatively with the children, extending language and thinking and helping them to understand the world, in a safe, loving and secure environment.

Nursery Staff Training & Development

We maintain a healthy balance of experienced nursery assistants and trainees working through our staff development system and several of our nursery staff are studying childcare at Foundation Degree level. At Channings nurseries we place great emphasis on the continuous training and development of our staff. This is in turn reflected in the quality of care and the expertise of the staff delivering the Early Years Foundation stage.

Nursery Staff / Parent Partnership

Staff and parents have a partnership in our nurseries. We believe that parents have a key role in the development of both the children and of life within the nursery. We have developed several methods to keep parents involved in their child’s day and informed about their child’s development. The nursery staff / parent partnership works in both directions. Every child has a key worker, who will meet the parent at either end of the day and exchange information about life in the nursery and also at home.

Our nurseries are very easily accessible from the M62 at J21 at Milnrow / Newhey, from the Hollinwood junction on the M60 at Oldham, and on the main route from Oldham to Rochdale. For more details and location maps see Nurseries.
